Home at Last!

We survived our trip back to Bolivia relatively incident free. It was difficult to deal with the altitude again but none of us had any major problems – just shortness of breath and difficulty sleeping. It’s getting better quickly though so there must be some residual benefit from living here for a year.

The picture to the left is Brooks as a pumpkin on Halloween – the day we made it back to Bolivia – at the Embassy Halloween party at the USAID building, hence the living sign. Things are relatively calm here, with no major civil unrest reported in the country, but the President made a statement in a speech on Saturday that makes it look like he will be suspending DEA operations in the country. That shouldn’t affect our stay here.

Anders and Brooks are both doing well and getting settled back into life in La Paz in stride. Anders has established an attachment to a stuffed animal for the first time in his four year life. I guess that’s an indication of how stressful all these moves have been on him. It is definitely cute to see him walking around with this little tiger though.

Robyn and I are excited and nervous about the election tomorrow. We’ve been invited to the official Embassy election party but are not sure if we want to go because we’d have to behave in an impartial way and that just doesn’t sound like much fun. It’s been difficult to go virtually cold turkey on TV election news. We’d gotten used to having some sort of election news on at any hour of the day. Now we have to deal with CNN International – and they only run a few hours of election coverage a day! Sacrilegious. At least we still have the internet.
